History
Co-founder Fred Coburn is said to have built the first Aquasport, a 22-footer, around 1964. The brand became a big name in saltwater fishing and an early innovator in prerigged boats. After financial trouble and a 1988 bankruptcy, Genmar bought Aquasport in 1989, moved production (to North Carolina, then to the Wellcraft plant in Sarasota), and stopped building Aquasport boats around 2005.
