History
Islander traces to the mid-1950s, when boat builder Joseph McGlasson built a 24-foot wooden sailboat, the Islander, in Costa Mesa. By 1961 a fiberglass version (built with help from Glas Laminates, later Columbia Yachts) sold faster than it could be made. The company passed through several owners — Wayfarer Yachts, Cosmodyne, Radlon, Mission Marine, and finally Fuqua Industries, which closed Islander in 1986. Islander collaborated with naval architects Bruce King, Alan Gurney, and Robert Perry, producing over 1,000 boats across 20+ models.
