Founded in 1968 by waterskiing instructor Rob Shirley, who modified a Ski Nautique to create a boat with a smaller wake, initially building out of a two-stall horse barn in Maryville, Tennessee. MasterCraft became a dominant name in tournament towboats and is today a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: MCFT) headquartered in Vonore, TN.
